Firm principals Steve Kennedy and Tom Fitzgerald have worked together for more than 20 years. They are committed to maintaining a core group of professionals who are focused on providing superior client service.

 
 

Meet our Team

Steven R. Kennedy, JD, CPA, Partner

With more than 30 years of experience in public accounting, Steve has worked with companies of all sizes – from startups to publicly traded – in a wide range of industries. His focus is on providing tax solutions throughout the lifecycle of a business, spanning entity selection, annual compliance, planning, audit representation and exit strategies.

“I like working with good people. I provide my clients with real information that’s understandable and useful. My aim is to take the intimidation out of it – and help them be more successful.”

Prior to entering public accounting, Steve worked at the Internal Revenue Service.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Minnesota Society of Public Accountants and the Minnesota State Bar Association. 

Steve earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and his B.A. in Accounting from Gustavus Adolphus College.

 

Thomas P. Fitzgerald, CPA, Partner

With more than 20 years of experience providing clients with high-quality, practical accounting and tax advice, Tom’s primary focus is on income tax preparation and planning for closely-held businesses and their owners, including restaurant franchisees, service businesses and real estate companies. 

Tom leads the firm’s accounting and financial statement preparation services, which includes managing reviews, compilations and monthly accounting, as well as bookkeeping engagements. Additionally, he advises clients on accounting and payroll tax issues, and represents them in resolving IRS and state tax matters.

“Accounting and taxes are frustrating for most people. For me, the most rewarding part of working with clients is knowing I’m making their lives a little easier by giving them strategies and solutions that save them time and money.”

Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants. 

Tom earned his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

 

Lisa M. Kennedy, CPA, PARTNER

With more than 15 years of experience in public accounting, Lisa specializes in preparing complex corporate, partnership and individual tax returns, as well as providing tax planning services for individuals and closely held businesses. Lisa prides herself on providing exceptional service to her clients, and being their trusted adviser through many different life events.

Lisa has been with Kennedy & Fitzgerald since its inception in 2011. Previously, she worked for nearly eight years as a senior accountant and supervisor at another prominent Twin Cities CPA firm.

Lisa is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Lisa earned her B.S. in Accounting from The College of St. Catherine, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.

 

Pamela J. Johnson, CPA, Manager

With more than 30 years of experience in tax, accounting, and payroll, Pam has worked for large and regional accounting firms, as well as in the corporate tax department of a Fortune 500 company. At Kennedy & Fitzgerald, Pam focuses on working with closely held businesses and their owners. 

Growing up the daughter of a small business owner, Pam appreciates and relates to the efforts and determination it takes to run a business. Her accounting and corporate background enables her to work with clients from formation through dissolution. With her bookkeeping background, she compiles clients’ financial statements, assists them with tax planning, business consulting, business sale/mergers/acquisitions, and tax preparation.

Pam earned her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She is a member of the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

amy e. rimington, senior accountant

Amy began her career having worked for two large retail companies as a Senior Accountant and then a Financial Analyst. While there she provided financial reports to directors and upper management. In addition, she worked for a local tax preparation firm focusing on preparing and reviewing individual tax returns.

At KA, Amy is focused on providing financial accounting services to our business clients, to provide timely and accurate financial statements. With her strong accounting background, she is able to assist business owners with their general accounting needs, compile their financial statements, and assist with tax planning, business consulting, and tax preparation.

Amy earned her B.A. in Accounting from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter MN. She has passed the CPA exam and is working towards getting licensed. She is a member of the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

 

MEGAN A. FRYE, senior accountant

With more than 20 years in the financial services industry, Megan brings a client-focused approach to accounting, credit analysis, compliance, and client relations. Megan has worked for large regional banks, regional accounting firms, to direct support roles. At Kennedy & Fitzgerald Megan provides client support by preparing business and personal tax returns. Providing support year round to provide clients with a more personalized tax experience.

Megan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Megan has a B.S. in Accounting from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and a Project Management Certificate from the University of St. Thomas

 

ashley P. allison, office manager

Ashley brings over 15 years’ experience in office and operations management to our firm. Prior to joining our team, she was the General Manager for a multi-unit franchisee in the Twin Cities metro area.

At Kennedy and Fitzgerald, Ashley contributes a variety of support services to the internal practice needs and to clients. She serves as the firm office manager, administrative support, manages workflow, deadlines, as well as the production of final reports and returns for our clients. As firm office manager, Ashley is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, supporting tax and accounting services.

“I have a strong passion for being in a supporting role within a company. I believe that is where I can make the most difference in the lives of team members and clients. I like to be in a position where I can be apart of all aspects of the company’s daily operations.”
